Frequently Asked Questions About Apple Remodeling

  • What are the benefits of acrylic tub and shower surrounds?

Acrylic has several benefits that makes it an ideal product for bath and showers. Primarily, it is one of the easiest materials to maintain and keep clean. Acrylic material is non-porous so it does not absorb materials that would stain, fade, or get moldy. Most people just use a squeegee to maintain it, but if cleaning material is ever used, then something as simple as liquid dish soap will work. In addition to being easy to take care of, it looks beautiful.

  • Do your tub and shower walls come as a kit?

No. All of our acrylic tub and shower walls are cut right on site and can extend up to the ceiling. We have been in thousands of bathrooms and have yet to find one where all walls are exactly square. We cut the material to fit perfectly.

  • Is a plumber required during the remodel process?

In almost every bathroom remodel, plumbing is required. In the state of Idaho, a licensed plumber is required to do that work. There is plenty of work that a General Contractor can complete during a remodel… but plumbing is not one of them (or electrical, or HVAC). A licensed plumber is very different than a general contractor. Plumbers are required to go through years of training and schooling before becoming journeymen plumbers. General contractors do not require a “license”. All that is required is proof of minimum liability insurance and registration with the Secretary of State. That does not mean a contractor is not a capable tradesperson. It is simply different levels of training and insurance requirements than a licensed plumber.

  • How long do your remodels take?

A tub and shower replacement usually takes 2 days with acrylic but can be 5-7 days when tiling. A full remodel (flooring, vanity, toilet, framing) is job specific, as you would imagine, but can take anywhere from one week to three weeks.

  • What is the difference between acrylic and fiberglass tub and shower systems?

Fiberglass tubs and showers are most often prefabricated systems made from reinforced glass fibers. It is then thinly coated with a glossy epoxy-like material. While very economical, fiberglass units are prone to wear and tear, staining, are size restricted, and come in primarily white color only. Acrylic is a co-polymer that is a blend of acrylic and ABS plastic. Benefits are truly non-porous, not size constrained, many colors and styles available

  • What does an acrylic tub or shower replacement cost?

As you can imagine, there are many factors that determine costs… size, amenities selected (doors, seats, shower system). That being said, replacing an existing tub and shower with no framing modifications, replacing all the rough-in plumbing, one can expect to pay in the range of $7,500 to $11,000 for a full replacement.
